WA Transport Minister Simon O’Brien is happy with improvements at Esperance Port’s metal concentrate housing and loading facilities.

According to Minister O’Brien, the improvement works mean the Department of Environment and Conservation licence conditions had been met.

The port has installed a new adjustable telescopic chute to the existing shiploader, designed to mitigate dust by delivering the load directly in the vessels cargo hold.

It has also completed dust-proofing the Black Swan Shed and the conveyors leading into and out of the shed, together with a dust fume extraction system.

The upgrades slashed nickel levels around the site. Results for recent shipments were all below the daily target of 0.14 micrograms per cubic metre, and in some instances the emissions could not be detected.”

While the results were very encouraging, Minister O’Brien says he expects further improvements as the engineering upgrades to the infrastructure were completed and became operational.
