Almondco installs Cablevey tubular conveyor systems

SA-BASED Almondco Australia has installed five Cablevey conveyor systems to upgrade its almond handling and processing capabilities.

The Cablevey conveyors were commissioned by AFSystems, which is the manufacturer’s Australasian distribution partner for tubular drag conveyors.

In 2007, prior to the upgrade, Almondco was using bucket elevators and vibratory feeders. This handling system caused dust and noise and resulted in product cross contamination and high maintenance costs. Handling was at 8000t.

According to Almondco Australia, the upgrade to the Cablevey conveyor systems will allow it to drive its expansion. It now expects to handle 30,000t of almonds by 2015.

The Cablevey conveyor system is a slow-running, dust free tubular conveyor system. According to Cablevey, it is gentle on the product, and quiet, while conveying up to 35 cubic metres of products per hour.

Cablevey says its tubular conveyor system can handle a range of particulate solids, replacing bucket elevators, screw conveyors, and pneumatic handling systems.

The material is transported between plastic discs, which glide through the tube without using air. Sections of clear plastic tubing allow easy inspection and speed can be adjusted for smoother throughput.

Almondco purchased five Cablevey conveyor systems, which were delivered at the end of 2008. All five systems were commissioned by the end of February 2009, with the help of AFSystems.

The Cablevey conveyor systems have a drive unit and tension turnaround unit made of 304 stainless steel, with variable speed SEW motor gearbox combinations.

Cablevey Conveyors and AF Systems will be displaying Cablevey conveyors at AUSPACK 2009 from 16 to 19 June 2009.
