Office of Regulatory Services releases vehicle loading cranes audit results

THE OFFICE of Regulatory Services (ORS) has released results from an audit inspection program on Vehicle Loading Cranes.

The ORS says the audit reviewed the serviceability of the Vehicle Loading Cranes and the skills of Vehicle Loading Crane operators.

The group claims results show less than 25% of the cranes inspected were fully compliant. Failure to have appropriate documentation on the vehicle as per Australian Standard was the most common issue.

As a result 64% of the Vehicle Loading Cranes audited received improvement notices. A further 16.6% received prohibition notices and 7% resulted in the crane being decommissioned.

The ORS says load handling was an area of major concern, where a majority of uncertified operators demonstrated a lack of understanding or knowledge about load management.

The audit inspection program was commissioned by the Workplace Safety Inspectors from the ORS in partnership with WorkCover NSW.
