MILLSOM Materials Handling says the speed and efficiency advances in woodworking technology is being held back by the relatively slow changing of workpieces.
Wood working machines now move in fast traverse modes, cut the workpieces at high speed, and rapid tool changing facilities allow a workpiece to be completely machined with one clamping operation.
However, these speed advantages are limited by the workpiece changing operation. In many cases, workpieces are still changed slowly by hand.
According to Millsom Materials Handling, it is possible to automatically load and unload CNC machines with the aid of vacuum tube lifting devices from J.Schmalz.
For example, the J.Schmalz JUMBO series of vacuum tube lifters can load machining centres with sheets of wood or pre-cut pieces and remove the finished workpieces quickly, safely and without damage to the material and its surfaces.
The materials handling vacuum tube lifter JUMBOErgo 300 can lift sheets with dimensions up to 400 by 200cm, and weights up to 300kg. The workpieces can be taken from a stack, a pallet or a trolley, moved to the machine, and positioned precisely.
The J.Schmalz JUMBOErgo 300 tube lifter can also take the workpieces from the machine after the task, and stack them for transport.
The JUMBOErgo 300 has a quadruple vacuum head. According to Millsom Materials Handling, it can handle large sheets of wood without damaging the laminated surfaces.
The JUMBOErgo 300 can be used in combination with a single-rail crane, allowing it to be implemented anywhere with a large operating area. A long operating handle allows the operator to keep away from the load.
