PALLET Loss Prevention is working towards developing a standardised Code of Conduct to iron out the inefficiencies in the pallet hire industry.
According to the company, the Australian Consumer Competition Commission (ACCC) has provided guidelines to help it develop the Code. The ACCC has also been reviewing the drafts, and are attending a meeting of the Code Administration committee.
The Code was developed because of the high costs of compensation for lost pallets. In some cases, the pallets are not actually lost, but transfer rejection policies mean the hirers of the pallets cannot get their transfers processed.
These pallets caught in “limbo” stay on the hirer’s account until they are compensated to the pallet hire company.
It is hoped the Code will simplify the industry and eliminate some of the inefficiencies created by the Pallet Transfer Authority dockets and the transfer system.
Public submissions to the Code can be made on the forum or emailed to the company.
