Cold trailers keep poultry fresh

MCLAUGHLIN Freightlines are using four new trailers from Peki to deliver fresh and frozen poultry for Bartter-Steggles.

The chicken supplier requires its products to be transported in precisely-controlled temperatures. According to McLaughlin, their use of the Peki ‘Polar’ Freezer Semi Trailers with the latest temperature controlled equipment is suited to the application.

The trailers can operate at temperatures down to negative 25 degrees Celsius. To increase efficiency, the trailer is constructed using polyurethane foam core insulated roof and walls. This insulation is said to minimse refrigeration plant fuel usage.

Bonded fibreglass ribs within the walls provide the strength and improved thermal performance. The doors also utilise fibreglass composite panels, while the rear door and door seal insulation keep the cold in.

The trailers also include BPW suspension, Alcoa polished aluminium wheels, aluminium splashguards and polished fuel tank.

According to the freight supplier, the vehicles are regularly hot washed with a pressure cleaner and sterilised using acid based chemicals.
